DCA Comment to the ICANN Public Forum in Toronto

October 23, 2012

Sophia Bekele at ICANN Public Forum DCA participated at the recent held ICANN public Forum in Toronto Canada on October 23rd 2012 and used the opportunity afforded by the presence of the entire ICANN Global Community gathered at Toronto to also unveil the IBCA – Internet Business Council for Africa – initiative that it has independently developed as a component of the ICANN Africa Strategy.
The objective of the IBCA is to increase and promote the participation of the African Private Sector, and the Africa/Global non-governmental constituency (involved in Africa) in the ICANN community and in Global Internet Governance.

The .Africa project announced at public forum in Paris!

June 2008 – Paris, France

Hotel de Ville speech by Chairman of ICANNMs. Sophia Bekele, Executive Director of .Africa and former policy advisor to ICANN, was present at the public forum in Paris to present the .Africa project status her organization and her team has been working on, to the ICANN Board. She stressed that her team has been very active in voicing the public positions of .Africa in ICANN’s key activities, and they are very pleased with the endorsements they are receiving from key regional organizations in Africa . “When we initiated this project back in 2006, we got consensus from key Africans within ICANN and participants, so as not to duplicate efforts.
