Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is working on a feature to set up usernames, similar to its rival Telegram.
Through an upcoming update on the Google Play Beta Program, lucky beta testers of WhatsApp’s 2.23.11.15 version will receive the ability to choose a username, which WhatsApp describes as an added layer of privacy to users’ accounts.
“This means that instead of relying solely on phone numbers to identify contacts, users will be able to opt for a unique and memorable username: by allowing users to choose usernames,” WhatsApp Beta said in a blog post on Wednesday.
Popular web browser, Opera, through its flagship product Opera Mini has announced plans to provide free internet access to millions of people in Kenya.
The tech firm says that it made the move in an effort to enhance its presence across Africa.
“Our mobile products and services are developed first and foremost with the African consumer in mind, we have invested in the region to bring more people online and offer them the fastest and most reliable internet connection,” said Mobile Opera Mini Executive Vice President, Jorgen Arnesen.
