Sophia Bekele Speaks at the 2024 Universal Women’s Leadership Forum

Last week, July 11-12, 2024, our CEO at DotConnectAfrica Group, Sophia Bekele, had the honor of participating in the 2024 Universal Women’s Leadership Forum at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, France, an event hosted by the European Cooperation System at the European Union Parliament.

The Universal Women’s Leadership Forum is a high-level event that celebrates and promotes the fundamental role of women in the leadership of today and tomorrow. It stands as an exceptional platform under the central theme: “Political emergence and economic impact: The axes of all possibilities for female leadership in a changing world. » This thematic choice reflects the commitment of the European System of Cooperation (SEC) to explore the opportunities, challenges and innovations that women leaders can bring in an ever-changing global context.   The diversity of participants, notably women in politics, business, engaged in civil society and engineers, will bring varied and complementary perspectives. The Universal Women’s Leadership Forum wants to rely on these influential women for in-depth contributions on the specific challenges in each area.

This inaugural gathering focused on Female Leadership and provided an electric atmosphere filled with dynamic panel discussions and insightful presentations over two days of thought-provoking dialogue. The summit was opened by the Mayor of Strasbourg, who is also a woman.

Sophia Bekele had the privilege of moderating a compelling high-level panel during the opening plenary session, leading the topic on women’s leadership and equality, featuring remarkable women leaders from various sectors.

The following day, she was honored to share her inspiring business journey, discussing both her successes and challenges with fellow female leaders. During her discussion, she introduced the concept of the “SHE FACTOR,” which resonated deeply with the audience, drawing on her rich experiences from the global south.

The pinnacle of the event was when she was presented with a SURPRISE  “WOMEN LEADERSHIP” award at the gala dinner.  She said it was a moment I will cherish forever, being recognized in Europe alongside the past recognitions I have received from the US and Africa.

Sophia quoted Snoop Dogg the rapper, saying, “First, I want to thank me, for all the hard work I put in …” expressing her gratitude and acknowledging the dedication that led to this honor. She extended her heartfelt appreciation to the organizers for this unforgettable accolade.

Beyond the event, Sophia was enchanted by the city of Strasbourg, France. The city’s charming ambiance, rich history, delectable cuisine, and fantastic shopping opportunities left a lasting impression. She also highlighted the unique experience of walking to Germany and back, a mere 400 meters away, as a historical and geographical feat. The warmth and hospitality of the locals added to the enriching experience of her visit.

Sophia Bekele continues to inspire and lead by example, and we are immensely proud of her achievements and recognition on such a prestigious international platform.
