1. The Quantum computer program is coming to 16 African universities including Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda.

IBM launched its Quantum computer program in Africa today, announcing a partnership with South Africa’s Wits University that will extend to 15 universities across nine countries. Quantum — or IBM Q, as the U.S.-based company calls it — is a computer that uses quantum bits (or qubits) to top the capabilities of even the most advanced supercomputers.

2. The future of technology hubs in Africa

African tech hubs look like any other in the world. Resplendent with beanie bags and foosball tables, inspirational graffiti marked within their walls and possibly neighbouring a skyscraper or two, marks them as similar to hubs elsewhere. However, the buck stops if tech hubs cannot sustain themselves let alone promote startup growth and transformation.

4. McAfee: Fake apps tops threats to mobile security in 2019

The widespread usage and integration of mobile devices and applications into all spheres of society has helped establish fake apps among today’s biggest cybersecurity threats. According to the McAfee Mobile Threat Report 2019, nearly 65,000 new fake apps were detected in December of last year alone— over 6 times the amount reported in June 2018. Just days into the year, Google had reportedly already taken down 36 fake Android security apps from the Google Play Store.
