DCA Registry Services Contribute to Second Africa DNS Forum, Durban SA

The Forum is aimed at the implementation of the ICANN Africa Strategy, which was developed in 2012 by the African Internet Community. The event was organized as a partnership between AfTLD, the Internet Society, and ICANN, and builds upon the Multi-Stakeholder Internet Governance program in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia that took place in March 2013, which sought to pave the way for the development of the DNS industry in Africa and to empower the African community for an increased accreditation of registrars from the continent.

DCA Registry Services, Senior Engineer Gideon Rop was among the panelists in the conference and he spoke on the Registrar Automation, and strategies of registry business in a competitive environment . He expounded on the strategic management tools for a successful registry, this included ways that the African registrars could automate their systems to attract more revenue and make the domain access to the registrants easier and affordable.

The DNS Forum was aimed at fostering cross-border collaboration between registries, registrars, registrants, DNS experts, government representatives, and policy makers. Topics covered during the two-day event included trends, opportunities, and challenges of the DNS industry; strategies for registries and registrars; legal issues with cross-border domain registrations; ways governments can support domain name growth; and benefits of standardizing accreditation to attract more cross-border registrars and registrations.

Other panelists and sponsors of ICANN Durban event included CentralNIC CEO Ben Crawford, the technical partner to DCA Registry Services, who spoke on the Open Vs Closed registries identifying the challenges that local registrars faced in expanding their businesses. He advised the delegates to come up with innovative solutions that would revolutionize their operations while also offering solutions from his more experienced organization. He also spoke of the new entrant in the African registrar market Africa.com, who was also sponsor of the ICANN Durban event. The organization headed by Ms. Teresa H. Clarke, is the fastest growing Africa-related website. Africa.com showcases carefully selected news, information and travel about all 54 countries, and is playing a key role in shaping how the world sees Africa.
